Rainbow Mountain 1 Day
Throughout your journey you will pass through a green valley with the impressive view of the imposing snow capped Ausangate in the distance. You will experience first-hand how people live in the mountains and even have the opportunity to speak with them. As you get closer to “Rainbow Mountain” you will begin to see the first signs of the colored minerals that make up the painted hills. Your guide will explain what constitutes the existence of the “rainbow mountain”, and finally with one last effort you will hike to a high point that gives you a 360 degree view of the beauty of the landscape that makes up this sacred land.
At 03:30 a.m. We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to make the trip south of Cusco on the road that goes to Puno and Arequipa. This area had a very important role in the history of Tawantinsuyo. The initial trip will take about an hour and a half. We will pass near the CUSIPATA district where we will be 30 minutes to have breakfast. From there, we continue with our trip for 1 hour and a few more minutes until we reach the parking area where we started our walk. Here, we will stop to have a brief talk about of how our tour will be. We begin our walk at the slopes of the Ausangate mountain range. There will be an ascent of approximately two hours to the highest point of the Rainbow Mountain. During this trip we will have the opportunity to see the different types of South American camelids (Alpacas, llamas and with good luck, some groups of wild vicuñas). Upon reaching the Rainbow Mountain, we will have time to enjoy the beautiful landscape and take pictures.
Finally, we will continue our trip with a descent of 1 hour and a few more minutes back to where the walk began, Here, the driver will be waiting for us to return to our restaurant where we can have lunch, after this stop, we return to Cusco, arriving at 3:00 pm approx.NOTE: After visiting the rainbow mountain, there is the option to visit the Red Valley. You have to walk 30 minutes more approximately and you must pay 20 extra soles for entering the area, at the same time if you want to rent horses to make the climb easier, check with your guide. It is very important to stay in Cusco or in places of greater elevation for 2 days or more before the expedition to acclimatize. Although the walk is only 3 hours, if you are not well acclimatized you may have difficulties during the trip.
